SPALTED CUP

'Spalted cup' is made from beech wood, turned and carved. The dark lines you see in this light beech timber is a process called spalting. It is the decay process in timber due to moisture and fungus. When caught and stopped in the early process it can create some amazing patterns and is often prized by woodworkers. This piece fits in your hands, is very light weight and tactile.
